You don't have to wash your ski pants after every ski trip! However, it is recommended that you only wash them once or twice per season to keep them fresh. Taking good care of your ski or snowboard pants by cleaning them will help ensure that they stay in good shape for years of use.
Washing machine or bucket filled with water
Drying rack or clothesline
Mild liquid detergent
Stain remover or liquid detergent (if you have any stains on your pants)
But before throwing your ski pants in the washing machine, check the label to make sure they are machine washable. Most ski pants are, but you don't want to risk ruining your favorite pair because you forgot to read the instructions. If for some reason they are not machine washable, or if you don't like putting them in the washing machine, then hand washing is another good option.
Before you wash your ski pants, you should always make sure you haven't left anything in your ski pockets, such as lip balm, money, tissues, etc. You also need to remove any lift passes and tickets you have attached to your ski pants as well.
Zipper up any zippers and secure any Velcro and fasten them to your ski pants. You don't want them to catch or hook on anything and cause damage when washing.
Check your ski pants for stains. Use a stain remover or liquid detergent and a soft bristle brush (such as a toothbrush) to clean any stains before putting your ski pants in the wash.
Wash your ski pants in a similar fabric or no other fabric. Set the setting to "Delicate" and the temperature to "Cool".
Just like machine washing, you will need to check the pockets, zipper and secure any buttons, and treat any stains before washing your ski pants.
Again, just like with a washing machine, you will need to use a mild liquid detergent and cold water when washing your hands.
Place your ski pants in the bucket and wash them gently. Rinse several times with cold water until you see that the water is clear and foam-free. Squeeze the pants out (don't ring them up) before drying.
In most cases, you will need to air dry your ski pants to prevent any damage the dryer may cause. Hang them on a clothesline or drying rack, if you have one. Otherwise, hang them in your closet and let them dry where they won't be exposed to direct sunlight.
Do not use warm water on high speed when using the washing machine. This may damage the material of the ski pants.
Do not use laundry detergents that contain fabric softeners, brighteners or fragrances.
If you decide to put your ski pants in the dryer (again, be sure to check the label first!) Do not use softener sheets. These will essentially clog the fabric and make it less breathable.
